All the horses here are treated with the utmost kindness and respect. We give love and compassion to those who have not experienced humans before and help restore them to their fullest potential.


FACT: Every year in the United States, over 30,000 horses are shipped out to Mexico or Canada to slaughterhouses. These horses endure a one-way trailer rider to an unimaginable fate.


Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization (HWH), established in 2017, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is solely focused on the good and well-being of unwanted horses.


At HWH we take in horses that have no humans, no voice of their own, and no other options. We provide the compassion and time it takes to rehabilitate them as well as the professional assessment, medical care, and training with some of the most successful trainers in the equine industry.


Our goal is to develop an intake, assessment, evaluation, and training model that can be taught to others with hopes of improving equine welfare in the United States both short and long term.

OUR MISSION



To restore the dignity, purpose, and wholeness of at-risk horses who need a second chance in life to thrive by providing compassionate care, connection, and specialized training.



Our VISION is to restore the vitality of horses through an authentic partnership between horses and humans.


Our Intake Program includes the following four critical stages:



RESCUE



HWH serves what is referred to as “The Unwanted Horse Population”. The unwanted horse population is defined as “horses within the domestic equine population that are no longer needed or useful, or their owners are no longer interested in or capable of providing financial or physical care”.



REHABILITATE



When new horses arrive to the rescue they are quarantined for a period up to 21 days to ensure any contagious illnesses can be contained and addressed appropriately. During that time, our vet will assess for any ailments or injuries and our HWH team will begin the rehabilitation process.



RETRAIN



Horses that are ready to exit quarantine are then evaluated for either our specialized training program or placement at our sanctuary at Rock Bluff Ranch. These horses are also available to be adopted as companions or you can sponsor them on a monthly basis.



REHOME



When the horses have completed their HWH training, they are ready to be adopted into their forever homes. We remain in contact with all adopters for the lifetime of the horse and are always here to provide support and resources to ensure a successful adoption.
